Non-Surgical Hair Loss Treatments
Hair Loss Solutions Without Surgery
Excessive hair loss can be embarrassing, though it happens to the best of us. Luckily, there are some options for those that do not want to consider surgery to take care of their hair loss problems. Some of the non-surgical options are quite simple and cost next to nothing while others can end up being quite costly over a long period of time. Hair loss is natural, so too is the worry that you are somehow less attractive when you begin losing your hair. Instead of getting too upset about it, you can take action without jumping right into the invasive surgical procedures. Hair loss is an issue for both men and women, and if you’ve eliminated the possibility that the hair loss is caused by disease or infection, there are several options for both men and women to consider to help them feel more confident about themselves.
Embrace the Change
One of the most obvious options is to embrace the baldness. Sure, this may not have been your first thought when you realized that your hair was getting seriously thin. But, bald is in and more and more men are embracing the idea that bald really is beautiful. Does this mean that you have to look like your father or your grandfather with the horseshoe head or sweep over method? No! In fact, you should truly embrace the baldness and shave off what is left of your hair! This seems extreme, but if you look around you’ll notice that bald really is in right now and when you get rid of the balding look you’ll find that you look years younger. All that you’ll need is a good razor, some time, and some shaving cream and you’ll be ready to embrace a new look. When you shave off your hair no one can tell that you are balding, they’ll just assume that you like the hairless look.
Hair Styling Changes
Sometimes you can treat baldness just by changing the way that you are currently styling your hair. Those that wear very tight rollers, pigtails, or even cornrows often experience baldness. Just changing the way that you style your hair might help to regenerate new growth if the scalp has not been scarred yet. If your hair is over processed with hot oils or chemicals you might if you back off from the chemicals that you’ll experience new growth and eventually you’ll have your full, healthy hair back again. Over processed hair often causes the follicles to swell to the point that the hair breaks off and doesn’t grow again. Avoiding chemicals can help you avoid this type of baldness.
Hairpieces
You might want to think about a hairpiece. Sure, we’ve all seen the movies where the hairpiece falls off and everyone makes fun of the guy with the hairpiece. If you are willing to spend some money, you can get a really great looking hairpiece that will match your natural color, won’t fall off, and will look great. As long as you don’t get too extreme, you’ll find that many of the people that you are close to won’t even notice the small change with your hairpiece. Believe it or not, the thinning hair is more noticeable to you than the people around you, which means you can add a hairpiece with confidence. Wigs are a great option for women, and actually give women a license to play around with hairstyles that they weren’t brave enough to try with their real hair. Wigs have come a long way, and just like hairpieces for men, they can look and feel very natural.
Rogaine
A very popular treatment for hair loss is an anti-balding drug known as Minoxidil, or Rogaine. This medication is applied right to the scalp, and while it is not a cure for baldness it has proved to be effective in retarding the most recent hair loss as well as stimulating new hair growth. Because baldness occurs when the hair is lost and there is a lack of re-growth, this is a great approach. Rogaine works particularly well on the crown of the head and has been shown to work well for younger people. Minoxidil is available for both men and women, though there are varying degrees of success with the drug. When used in conjunction with surgical treatments, Minoxidil has proven to be very effective in helping to retain current hair, stimulate new growth, as well as providing a fuller more natural looking hair. The great thing about Minoxidil is that it is sold over the counter so that you can address your hair loss issues without seeing a doctor and at a time and place that is most comfortable for you.
Propecia
There is another medication that have proven useful in preserving existing hair, this medication is Finasteride but is sold under the name of Propecia. This is a medication that comes in pill form instead of a cream that is put right on the scalp. Unfortunately, this medication is only available for men and there is no equivalent for women. Propecia is often combined with Minoxidil for great results as well as with surgical techniques. Combining these therapies really helps to preserve the natural growth of hair as well as to stimulate new growth.
Results With Non-Surgical Treatment Options
Non-surgical methods to treat hair loss do work; they just might be subtler than if you opt for a surgical treatment. If you are simply not ready to try a surgical treatment yet, it’s good to give these non-surgical treatments a try before you take that leap. Baldness or excessive hair loss is a common issue, and that is why there are so many treatments out there for you and people like you. If one method doesn’t work for you, you can always try another until you find something that works as well as something you are comfortable with. Perhaps these non-surgical methods will do the trick for you, if not there is no shame in moving toward the surgical treatments as they can give you back your confidence as well as your hair!
